.We are fortunate in Brighton that the school district allows for the hiring of instrumental specialists especially for the beginning level of band. These specialists come to us from a variety of areas of expertise and background with most of them holding at least one music degree and a great deal of teaching experience.
Flute:
Oboe/Flute: Ms. Pat VanDommelen Ms. VanDommelen is a Graduate of U of M, with a degree in music education. She also was a member of the highly regarded Cass Tech HS Bands under the baton of Harry Begian. She has continued her education by taking coursework at Madonna, Marygrove, and Eastern Universities. As a certified teacher she has taught in a variety of locations including private, charter and public schools and has a long standing private lesson studio that has produced many of the areas finest oboists. She has performed in bands, orchestras, chamber ensembles and also has been a 28+ year veteran of church music work. She teaches private lessons not only on oboe but also piano.
Bassoon/Flute: Ms. Shari Anason Ms. Shari Anason is a freelance bassoonist. She studied the bassoon at Michigan State University with the late Edgar L. Kirk and graduated in 1980.
Ms. Anason has performed with the Charlotte Symphony of Charlotte, N.C., the Queens College (now University) Orchestra of Charlotte, N.C, the Summer Symphony of Ann Arbor, the Livingston Symphony, the Shepherd of the Lakes Festival Orchestra, the Ypsilanti Symphony and in many area churches.
She has been teaching the bassoon in the Brighton Area Schools since 1995 as well as in the Milford/Huron Valley, Hartland, Howell, South Lyon and Pinckney Community Schools. Ms. Anason also maintains a private lesson studio at home and can be contacted for bassoon lessons at [email protected].
Ms. Anason's former Brighton High School bassoon students went on to be accepted into the School of Music at Central Michigan University and some have played at other area universities.
Clarinet: Ms. Terri Jenkins Ms. Jenkins has taught students of all ages, from beginners to advanced college students. She has taught clarinet and coached chamber music ensembles at various institutions, including U of M-Flint, College for Creative Studies and MSU Community Music School-Detroit. She earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Music degree, both in Clarinet Performance. Ms. Jenkins performs regularly in area orchestras and chamber music groups and is an Instrumental Specialist and Private Instructor in the Brighton Area Schools.
High Brass: Mr. Michael Block (Trumpet and French Horn
Low Brass: Mr. Aaron Buczek (Trombone, Baritone and Tuba) Mr. Aaron Buczek is a freelance trombonist and teacher in the greater-Detroit area, and has been teaching in the classroom and privately since 2011. Aaron was born an raised in southeast Michigan, and graduated from Warren Mott High School (Warren, MI) in 2010. Mr. Buczek completed his formal musical training at Western Michigan University (BM, Music Performance, 2014), and later began work on a MM in Music Performance/Chamber Music at the University of Michigan in 2014. Aaron's primary teachers include Steve Wolfinbarger, David Jackson and Donald Babcock, and has taken lessons or performed in masterclasses with Jeremy Wilson, Randy Hawes, Massimo LaRosa, and Gerry Pagano, among others. In addition to his private teaching studio, Mr. Buczek currently serves as the Trombone Instrumental Specialist for the Brighton Area Schools and Hartland Consolidated Schools, and also teaches brass ensembles and chamber music ensembles for several school districts. http://www.buczektrombone.com
