Performance is an important part of participating in a musical activity and serves as the culminating event of a unit. 6th grade band students participate in 3 concerts per year. The first one is a demonstration concert in January which is followed by a more advanced demonstration concert in March. These two concerts happen in the Maltby Gym. The final concert is a shared concert with a 5th grade concert grouping in late May and takes place in the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts (BCPA).
All hours of 6th grade band will perform in a combined concert.
Please note that all band concerts in Brighton Area Schools begin at 7pm.
Concerts at Maltby tend to last 30-40 minutes depending on the event. The late May Finale Concert is slightly longer due to having two groups performing.
6th Grade students also perform as solo or duet as part of a Solo and Duet Unit. Most students choose to perform their solo or duet at a Solo and Duet Festival held at Maltby. The start time for this is sometimes as early as 6 p.m. with students having the ability to request certain time slots. More information about this event is elsewhere on this site.
